Stark Varg top speed: how fast are the MX, EX and SM?

Stark Varg top speed: how fast are the MX, EX and SM?

Quick answer

Stark Future doesn't publish an official top speed, but the figures are well established. Gearing, power mode and rider weight all move the number.

75MPH
Varg EX · listed 120 km/h
Road legal
96MPH
Varg SM · listed 154 km/h
Road legal
~103MPH
Varg MX · unrestricted, GPS-tested
Off-road only

The headline 80hp figure is about acceleration more than outright speed. Here's what each model actually does, what the 60hp and 80hp versions change, and how far the battery takes you. Every Varg is in our Stark Varg electric bikes range at our Wakefield shop.

Stark Varg top speed by model

Model Top speed Road legal? Price from
Varg MX 1.2 ~103 mph (independent test) No, off-road only £10,490
Varg EX 120 km/h (~75 mph) Yes, when registered £10,900
Varg SM 154 km/h (~96 mph) Yes, when registered £10,900

Prices are our shop prices for the 60hp versions. The 80hp Alpha versions are £1,000 more.

~103 mph

Varg MX 1.2 top speed

The MX is the motocross bike, built for the track rather than straight-line speed. Stark doesn't publish a top speed for it. Independent GPS testing has recorded around 103 mph, but the bike's own display stops at 88 mph, so the dash will under-read. On a UK motocross track you'll never get near either figure. Gearing and power mode matter far more than the top end.

The MX isn't road legal, so you can only ride it on private land or at a track with the landowner's permission.

~75 mph

Varg EX top speed

The EX is the road-legal enduro version, and German type data lists it at 120 km/h (about 75 mph). That's plenty for linking trails on green lanes and B-roads, which is what the EX is for. It isn't built for motorways. We register the EX with the DVLA and fit plates before you collect, so it's ready to ride on the road.

~96 mph

Varg SM top speed

The SM is the supermoto. It runs 17-inch road wheels and is set up for tarmac, which is why it's the quickest road-legal Varg, with a listed 154 km/h (about 96 mph). The limited-edition SM Sköll was clocked at 210 km/h on a banked oval in Spain in 2026, but that was a record run, not a road bike's everyday speed.

Does the 80hp Varg go faster than the 60hp?

The 80hp Alpha mostly gives you harder acceleration, not a much higher top speed. Both versions use the same motor and battery. Stark's app lets you set power anywhere from 10 to 80hp, so the Standard is capped at 60hp and the Alpha unlocks the full 80hp.

Standard · 60hp

Save £1,000

For most riders, 60hp is already a lot of power. Choose the Standard if you're mostly trail riding.

Alpha · 80hp

Full output

Choose the Alpha if you race, ride hard enduro or want the full output.

Can you make a Stark Varg faster?

Yes, but you trade acceleration for top speed. There are two levers:

LEVER 01

Power mode

A 60hp Standard can't reach the Alpha's full 80hp, and many riders run lower modes on trails. Turning power up in the app is the simplest gain.

LEVER 02

Gearing

A smaller rear sprocket (or bigger front) raises top speed but softens acceleration. A bigger rear sprocket does the opposite. On a motocross track, most riders gear for drive out of corners, not top end.

On a road-registered EX or SM, tell your insurer about any changes to power or gearing. Not sure what suits your riding? Ask our workshop team for a quote.

Stark Varg vs Sur-Ron top speed

The Stark Varg is faster and far more powerful than any Sur-Ron:

Sur-Ron Light Bee X10 kW peak
50 mph
Sur-Ron Light Bee 224 kW peak
56 mph
Sur-Ron Ultra Bee24.5 kW peak
59 mph
Stark Varg EX60–80hp (about 45–60 kW)
~75 mph

The Sur-Ron range costs much less and is lighter and easier for newer riders. See our Sur-Ron electric bikes, or our Light Bee 2 vs Light Bee X vs Ultra Bee comparison to find the right one.

Stark Varg battery and range

7.2 kWh · MX 1.2, EX & SM 6.5 kWh · original Varg MX ~2 hr charge · UK socket

Stark quotes up to 6 hours of riding, but that's at gentle trail pace. Real-world range depends on how hard you ride:

35–38 mins
MX track, pro pace
1 hr–1 hr 20
MX track, amateur pace
~2 hr 20
EX enduro, amateur
Up to 73 miles
SM, mixed road riding

Charging takes about 2 hours from a standard UK socket with the included charger.

Stark Varg FAQs

How fast is a Stark Varg in mph?

About 75 mph for the road-legal EX, about 96 mph for the SM and roughly 103 mph for an MX in independent testing. Stark doesn't publish an official figure.

Is the Stark Varg road legal in the UK?

The EX and SM can be road registered in the UK. The MX is off-road only. You'll need the right motorcycle licence, insurance and tax, so check GOV.UK's licence rules and ask us which category applies.

What's the difference between the Stark Varg 60hp and 80hp?

Power and acceleration. Both share the same motor, battery and chassis, and the Alpha unlocks 80hp. The Alpha costs £1,000 more at our shop.

Is a Stark Varg faster than a Sur-Ron?

Yes. The road-legal Varg EX does about 75 mph, against 59 mph for a Sur-Ron Ultra Bee and 50–56 mph for a Light Bee.

How long does a Stark Varg battery last?

Up to 6 hours of easy trail riding, according to Stark. On a motocross track, expect 35 minutes to about 1 hour 20, depending on pace.

How much is a replacement Stark Varg battery?

The 6.5 kWh battery for the original Varg MX is £2,700, and the 7.2 kWh battery pack for the Varg EX is £3,315. Finance is available on both.
