How do I check a Revvi fits?
Revvi doesn't publish rider heights for most models, so check these three things with your child on the bike:
Feet
Seated, both feet reach the ground. On the 12" and 16" balance bikes they should go flat, because that's how young riders stop and steady themselves. On bigger models, the balls of the feet are enough.
Reach
Hands sit on the grips with elbows slightly bent, and they can pull the brake levers fully.
Weight
They can hold the bike upright and wheel it on their own.
First Revvi: 12", 16" or 16" Plus? (ages 2–8)
The 12" is the starting point. Revvi's guidance is to ride with no power at age 2, no power or the slow setting at 3–4, and the fast setting from 5.
The 16" and 16" Plus have the same top speed. The Plus adds a third speed setting, quicker acceleration and a 40 kg rider limit. Our Revvi 16 vs 16 Plus guide covers the rest.
Revvi 16" XL or 18": the step up (ages 6–12)
These suit children who have outgrown a balance bike but aren't ready for a 20". The choice usually comes down to your child's weight:
16" XL
Smaller wheels but a 70 kg rider limit. It's the pick for bigger 6–8-year-olds who are over the 16" Plus's 40 kg limit.
18"
More speed and a 36V battery for riders aged 8+, but a lower 50 kg limit.
A lighter child aged 8 or over should go for the 18". A child over 50 kg should go for the XL or step up to a 20".
Revvi 20", 20" Plus or 24": how fast is the Revvi 24? (ages 10+)
The Revvi 24's three speed settings are 15.5 mph, 22 mph and 30 mph. At the top setting it's a bike for confident teenagers, not a first bike.
The 20" and 20" Plus are the same size. The difference is power: the Plus has the same 48V 15Ah battery as the 24", against the standard 20"'s 36V 7.5Ah. Both the 20" Plus and 24" take riders up to 75 kg. See Revvi 20" Plus and 24" explained for the full comparison.
How long does a Revvi battery last?
| Revvi | Slowest setting | Fastest setting |
|---|---|---|
| 12" | 1 hr 15 | 40 mins |
| 16" Plus | 1 hr 25 | 50 mins |
| 16" XL | 1 hr 10 | 35 mins |
| 18" | 1 hr 20 | 25 mins |
| 20" | 1 hr 30 | 35 mins |
| 20" Plus | 1 hr 20 | 30 mins |
| 24" | 1 hr 20 | 30 mins |
These are constant-riding times from Revvi's specs. Heavier riders, hills and long grass shorten them. The speed setting makes the biggest difference: an 18" lasts over three times longer on slow than on fast. Most models recharge in about 2–3 hours.
Where can kids ride a Revvi in the UK?
Only off-road, on private land with the landowner's permission.
Revvis have no pedals, so UK law doesn't treat them as e-bikes. An e-bike without working pedals counts as a motorcycle or moped, which must be registered, taxed and insured, with a licensed rider, before it can go on a road (GOV.UK). That rules out roads, pavements and cycle paths.
Which Revvi should I buy for Christmas?
Check the rider weight limits before the age ranges, because they rule out more bikes. A 9-year-old close to 50 kg will soon pass the 18"'s limit, so the 20" is the longer-lasting buy. A light 8-year-old is better on the 18", which is lighter and easier to handle than the 20". Whichever you choose, start on the slowest setting.
